Newton Hall Infants’ School has 4 very different leadership groups which children can be part of and which fulfil different roles within school. As young as they are we know that our children have a ‘voice’. We are very interested in their views and try to ensure that we accommodate their views and needs in the main aspects of school life.
School Council – our School Council is made of 2 children from all 6 classes. Councillors meet regularly with Mrs Cooke to discuss various issues that are in the forefront of the children’s minds as well as issues the staff wish to bring up with the children and seek their opinion for. They also are responsible for the fund raising aspects of the school for national charities such as Children in Need, Comic Relief, etc.
Eco Warriors – this group meets with Mrs Humphrey to discuss the environment both within and outside of school, waste management, walking to school initiatives, ways in which we can save energy in the school building and how we can promote Healthy Schools.
Lunchtime Monitors – children from Year 2 have the opportunity to help in the school hall at lunch time. 2 children from Hawk Owl’s and Wood Owl’s help the lunchtime supervisors in the hall with small tasks. They help the younger children with their trays, help and show children how to cut up their food, they also like to do a little cleaning too. Our Year 2’s love the responsibility of being a lunchtime monitor and you can always spot one as they wear our special lunchtime monitor jackets.
I know that all of the children involved take their roles and responsibilities very seriously and are eager to make a positive contribution to our school and our local community.
